Hi, i’m Kate forest and I am a traditional indigenous craftsperson, artisan, and singer from Newfoundland and Labrador.


ABOUT ME
    
Kate Forest (any Pronouns) is a 26 year old Inuit and Mi’kmaq Emerging Multidisciplinary Visual Artist, Performer and Instructor who pulls heavily from Newfoundland and Labrador’s history, Indigenous teachings, and the importance of community in her work. Kate is a member of the NunatuKavut Community Council, grew up in St. Lewis, NL and currently lives in St. John’s, NL where they sell her art out of her home. Kate’s visual arts practice includes acrylic paintings, beading, jewelry making, caribou tufting and hand stitched art pieces, among other things. Her self-taught artistic expression reflects both their deep love of nature and cultural reclamation. Kate has taught many traditional crafts to both the St. Lewis and St. John’s Community, creating a traditional crafting program at First Light Friendship Centre in St. John’s and has been applauded for her facilitation skills. They are also a Inuit Throat Singer and First Nations Drummer when they are not home creating in her home studio. Katelin just finished her first Artist Residency at First Light Centre for Performance and Creativity. Currently they are participating in the N’we Jinan Young Professional Artists Program where they is networking with other young indigenous artists, gaining skills to work as a professional artist in the creative sector.
